Museum Makes New Moves for More Sustainability
When the Levine Museum of the New South decided in 2008 to document the successes and challenges from setting sustainability goals, it turned to CALOR for help in assessing and communicating its progress in moving along the path to a more environmentally-friendly future. CALOR assessed the existing equipment, lighting and utility bills, then assisted this innovative history museum in obtaining a key grant from Duke Energy for the upgrade of its lighting and HVAC. CALOR assembled the data, addressing such key metrics as energy use, recycling programs and employee commuting.
The changes have reduced the consumption of power and gas by as much as 30% annually, significantly shrinking the carbon footprint. CALOR shares the Museum’s vision for an increasingly “green” facility and operations, reporting progress in its newsletter and web site to successfully reach both internal and external audiences.
