Reclaim, restore, re-invent: that’s the far-reaching vision of CALOR client Forsite Development for a 667-acre Superfund site located on the eastern bank of the Catawba River in west Mecklenburg County, North Carolina.
CALOR helps Forsite in three key areas:building acceptance for the eco-industrial park concept with key stakeholders, leveraging efficiencies among multiple “closed-loop” green technologies, and integrating public/private funding strategies for an anticipated overall investment of $900 million.
Primary CALOR support aligns with the launch of a 10-MW waste-to-energy plant, a 4 MW solar field and energy crop research. CALOR also assists with team initiatives to increase wildlife habitat and public recreational use on conservation easements covering almost 30 percent of the site’s total acreage, to establish an environmental education learning center on-site, and to de-list the site under terms of established by the NC Brownfields program.
Known as the ReVenture Eco-Industrial Park, this pioneering project to expand the green energy infrastructure will set a national precedent for reclaiming contaminated, abandoned industrial sites throughout the US.
